Had a great meal out last night - Pizza finishing off with 'one for the road' in the bar on floor 15 of the Holiday Inn where we were staying.  A good night's sleep and up bright and early to transfer to the Eaglerider depot to pick up our bikes (and sign more paperwork).  But its more efficient than on previous occasions and we are soon out on the road heading out of Chicago.

At a comfort stop Dave and I sport our new headgear.  Dave has opted for the 'Captain America' look with his purchase of a new helmet, while I have attached a traditional British 'punk' crest on my helmet:

A more panoramic perspective reveals an amazing 'retro' Route 66 artifact near an old diner:

A few miles down the road we stop for lunch at another 50's style diner:

...with suitable kerb-side features:

At this point the heavens open and we set off in the rain.  But before too long the sun is out and we stop in Pontiac for coffe and sightseeing.

After getting through a horrendous traffic snarl up due to a ficticious roadworks we head off across country and sample some genuine Mid-West scenery.

We get to Springfield (birthplace of Abraham Lincoln) and 200 mies from Chicago, park the bikes and enjoy an ice cold beer or two before checking into the hotel.  Tomorrow St Louis !
